At the ISOD Headquarters, inside the meeting room, the leaders gathered to listen to the confessions of one of the captured spies, a black American.
He sat quietly with his face down, while Uncle Musa spoke:
“What are you doing here in Nigeria?”
The spy replied, “I came here on assignment from the K.K. team.”
“What mission did they send you on?”
“To finish off Baby Pretty before you people could get to her.”
Uncle Musa frowned. “Why? What wrong did she commit?”
“She committed a great sin against us. She handed over her diary to your people and became a witness for you. If she’s still alive, you can see the diary she gave to Chief.”
Everyone in the meeting room glanced at each other with astonishment. Uncle Musa quickly asked, “Do you know the Chief?”
The spy answered, “Yes, I know him. He works for ISOD, doesn’t he?”
“Yes. How did you know?”
“He’s the one we planned to make our leader in Nigeria. He promised to give us important information about ISOD’s plans. Baby Pretty mentioned this in her diary—that’s why she must be silenced.”
Chief, who had been sitting calmly all along, could no longer hold back. He slammed his hand on the table, his face showing anger. “That’s a lie! This man is trying to drag my name into his filth. You all know me well. I’ve been serving this organization with loyalty for over 20 years. I can never betray ISOD.”
The spy laughed mockingly. “You can lie to them, but you can’t lie to me. I know you very well, Big Boss.”
At the mention of Big Boss, the entire hall grew noisy. All eyes turned toward Chief. His face changed color, sweat rolling down his forehead. He tried to cover up by forcing a smile.
Uncle Musa narrowed his eyes. “What did you just call him?”
“I said Big Boss. That’s his nickname among us.”
The room fell into a heavy silence. Everyone kept staring at Chief, waiting for his reaction.
He stood up abruptly. “This interrogation is a waste of time. You know very well that criminals like him are trained to lie. I won’t sit here and let him tarnish my reputation.”
But inside, his heart raced violently. He had never expected that this day would come so soon.
